Hold'em poolHow to's of Omaha Hi Poker
Omaha Hi is a variation of poker and can be played with a maximum of ten players. Each player is dealt with four pocket cards, and five community cards will be dealt and placed on the table. The goal is to get the best hand using two of the cards dealt per player and three from the community cards.
An important part of Omaha Hi poker is the button. It is used throughout the course of the game to specify the position of the dealer when the players are the ones taking their turns in acting as the dealer. The player at the button position normally has the advantage since he is always the last person to play. This is the reason why the button is often turned, after every hand, in a clockwise direction to give each player a chance to be at the button position.
The initial step in playing Omaha Hi is to post blinds. The first bet by the player at the left side of the button is called the small blind. The player, at the left of the other player who made the small blind, will make the big blind. The big blind is typically a higher bet compared to the first bet.
Each of the players is dealt with four pocket cards. Then the first betting round, also called pre-flop, starts the game. After the pre-flop, three of the community cards on the table are set, face up. The player at the left side of the button begins the betting for the second time. A fourth community will be set face up after the second betting round. The river, or the last community card will be set face up, and the final betting round will take place.
The showdown lets each player expose his best hand comprising of the five cards. The player who has the best poker hand will take the pot totaling all the wagers placed by the players. In Omaha Hi, this is referred to as the winning hand.
In playing Omaha Hi poker it is important to keep an eye on the community card and how they can make the chances of having the best hand possible. If a player's hole cards go well together then it is likely to have the potentials of becoming a good hand. A player should remember that when the flop is not in favor of him, he should be aware that nothing else will make his tables turn. His three cards didn't do him any good from the beginning, so why waste the funds in trying. Instinct is the key in playing Omaha Hi.
