Positon, Tells and Community Cards

Positioning in Texas Hold'em Poker is very powerful. It is important to play your position very well. If you are the first player at the poker table to act, then you have the advantage of scaring the other poker players. You can do this by raising the bet. That way, you eliminate the weaker hands. Some of your opponents who got scared will fold. You would want to scare them if you got bad cards. You want to lessen the number of players at play to improve your chances of winning the pot.

If you are the last one to bet, you have a disadvantage in a way that your opponents will try to scare you. Your advantage comes in a form that you will be able to see your opponents' action before your turn. This way, you will have an idea how many have potentially good cards and how many do not. If most of your poker opponents just called or checked, it means that only a few of them got good cards. Therefore, many of them can get scared easily, so now is a perfect chance to raise. This way, you terminate the weaker cards and increase your possibility of taking the pot.

Another vital component in winning at poker is the poker tells. Although some poker players today disregard the use of the poker tells, there are still many who think tells can make you win at poker games. Tells are the body language or behavior of players at the poker table. They are signs or clues of what a certain poker player has in his hands.

Poker tells give away a poker player's bluff. To be able to spot a tell, one needs a very strong sense of observation. A poker player must observe and distinguish other poker players' behavioral pattern so as to know which bodily reactions correspond to the players' hand. When you get to spot a tell, don't let the other poker players know what you just did.

This is to avoid the tell's owner to be alerted and hide his or her tells eventually. The tell's owner may also want to confuse you by deliberately displaying the tell on an opposite circumstance. Remember, you have to make the poker tells to work to your advantage, not against you.

Finally, but not the least, you may want to study the community cards to help you win poker games. You can even use them to deceive other poker players at the poker table. If the community cards show that someone might have already come up with a flush, but it is not you, you can still pretend that it is you by raising. Other gullible players will be scared to fight you, unless there is really someone who got the flush.
